Fort is oriented to river -- 35 degrees NE? The province of Darien has Strong Houses, built by the Spanish between the years of 1760 to 1785, which were equipped with cannons, protected by soldiers and were intended to repel indigenous attacks, corsairs, filibusters and pirates, who constantly attacked the Populations occupied by Spain during the time of the Viceroyalty of New Granada. One of the forts built by the Spanish is Fort San Geronimo de Yaviza (Chucunaque River), recognized today as a World Heritage Site.
